The Self Deprecation Society

The Self Deprecation Society.

Want to join? You probably don't think you're worth it, that others would certainly be better members and that if you did, people would think you weren't a worthwhile member. If that rings any bells for you; you're welcome here.

I've struggled over time to try and figure out exactly why I hold this opinion of myself. It certainly isn't useful in the grand scheme of things.

Sure it's part of my upbringing and certainly humility is a worthwhile attribute but for those of us in the SDS it has gone way beyond that into a whole new definition of life. we manage to weave life thru' strands of self depreciation to neatly clothe all of our troubles whether they be relationships, work, career goals, sport, personality or even physical looks. Most importantly we pay no attention whatsoever to any alternative viewpoint or even facts related to any of this. everything around us, particularly when we are down confirms to us that we are just not good enough.

Why are we members? None of us really know, because if we did; we would lose our membership. If you know a member, bear with them and gently encourage us at any reasonable opportunity. We probably will play down any compliment but actually that's all we need to get us encouraged for months ahead.

But remember- as sure as the sun rises, our next setback will have us back on the phone to the membership secretary. It's not your fault, just our very poor coping strategy.
